A rare vintage String modular shelf system in white coated wire and Ash wood shelves. A small set of white wall panels and shorter shelves compared to the large black set I have listed separately. Can be assembled in a few different ways not shown.
The shelves are made from solid wood covered in gorgeous Ash wood. Some shelves are a sheet of Ash wood and other shelves are book matched, and some figured.
Designed by Swedish architect Nisse Strinning and his wife Kajsa in 1949.
The shelves assembled as shown are 47.25" wide.
Set includes:
- 8"D x 22 7/8"L Shelves x2
- 12"D x 22 7/8"L Shelves x2
- 7.25"D x 20"H Wall Panels x2
- 11"D x 20"H Wall Panels x1
- 11"D x 10"H Wall Panels x2
I refinished a couple of the shelves of the shelves and the others are in great vintage condition. The hooks on the shelves are staggered compared to the left vs right side, allowing them to sit flush in a row if you want. The hooks one one side are hinged allowing some room when installing/removing.
I used Size 8 Pan Head screws with 75bl EZ anchors. But I recommend getting large pan head screws and Hillman DuoPower Contractor-Strength anchors to use with the larger screws. Some of the holes in wall panels were larger and screws were slipping through. The wall panels sit flush at the top and have a space on the bottom. The original design called for spacers on the bottom when not lined up with another shelf and I have found suitable nylon replacements.
