String Modular Shelf System in Black & Ash

$2,400.00 Sale price

A rare vintage String modular shelf system in coated black wire and Ash wood shelves. A very large set with a lot of options! Enough pieces to assemble into a 3 bays or more with smaller layouts. Or even multiple difference shelving sets around the home!

The shelves are made from solid wood covered in gorgeous Ash wood. Some shelves are a sheet of Ash wood and other shelves are book matched, and so many of them are figured.

Designed by Swedish architect Nisse Strinning and his wife Kajsa in 1949.

Everything in the first two pictures is included! The shelves assembled are 31.25" wide.

Set includes:

  • 8"D x 30.75"L Shelves x15
  • 7.25"D x 40"H Wall Panels x7

I refinished a few of the shelves and the rest are in great vintage condition. The hooks on the shelves are staggered compared to the left vs right side, allowing them to sit flush in a row if you want. The hooks one one side are hinged allowing some room when installing/removing.

I used Size 8 Pan Head screws with 75bl EZ anchors. But I recommend getting large pan head screws and Hillman DuoPower Contractor-Strength anchors to use with the larger screws. Some of the holes in wall panels were larger and screws were slipping through. The wall panels sit flush at the top and have a space on the bottom. The original design called for spacers on the bottom when not lined up with another shelf and I have found suitable nylon replacements.
